It is early Monday morning, at Mercy High School. Arco is in class, seated down before the first period starts. Ayanda walks towards her.
AYANDA: Hey, you little brat, teachers kid! It’s not even class time and you’re here with your stupid books.
ARCO: (softly) Morning to you too, Ayanda. (as she continues writing on the book).
AYANDA: Oh, come on, silly! Get over, yourself. We all know that’s all an act. You just want to be “the teacher’s pet” that’s all. For all we know, you are just a lazy, privileged, spoilt brat.
ARCO: We? (as she turns to Ayanda) You and who exactly, Ayanda?
AYANDA: Me and everyone else. Even a stupid person like you knows this!
ARCO: Oh please! Level with me here, If you aren’t lazy and stupid, why am I seeing you here and not at your desk studying right now? Huh?
AYANDA: I… you just… (stuttering)
ARCO : (smiling) So I have stepped on some toes now?
AYANDA: (In shame) Oh, please! (she rolls her eyes) Don’t you try to lay a guilt trip on me, I know more than you.
ARCO: Oh right! You know better.
AYANDA: Don’t patronize me! (she looks very annoyed).
ARCO: Haw! (as she laughs) bite my head off, then.
AYANDA: (Now pissed) You know what! Some of us have lives to live, rather than being around useless people, like you.
ARCO: Then why are you here? Are you lonely, perhaps?
AYANDA: You know better, how popular I am in this school. I don’t get lonely.
ARCO: Why are you here, then?
AYANDA: Mxm! Listen here girl, you can’t carry on hiding behind your books. Get a life!
ARCO: Oh, well… thank you. Actually, this is your first morsel of sense for the day. If you’ll excuse me… (she goes back to writing).
AYANDA:(As she goes away) Whatever, idiot! Nxa!
