It’s towards the end of the last lecture before break. Learners are seated down as the teacher is teaching.
SIR: And that concludes our lesson for the day.

AYANDA: Already?

SIR: Yes, Ayanda! And you couldn’t wait for me to get out of your sight, right?

AYANDA: (she rolls her eyes) And why would you say that, Sir?

SIR: I don’t know. Maybe the way you have been whispering and making a noise with your friend explains what an undisciplined girl you are.

The class laughs.

Ayanda rolls her eyes again.

SIR: Well, I believe you are all ready for your test 1 scripts.

Learners moan and groan and Brian raises his hand.

SIR: Though I’m not really impressed with most of your performances.
(He then nods on Brian to speak).

BRIAN: Sir, do you reckon this is the perfect time to issue scripts? (he looks around), I mean we have a second test soon. You don’t want to stress us out, do you?

AYANDA: (in a loud voice) Exactly.

SIR: I’m not trying to stress anybody out. I believe it’s only fair that everyone knows their marks so you know on what grounds you ought to perform.

BRIAN: I guess you are right sir.

SIR: Of course I am right, Brian. Okay great! I am not going to call out names with marks today; I’ll just issue scripts. But I’m going call upon the top 3 students.

There was silence in class.

SIR: I’ll call their names and they’ll come in front by the clapping of your hands. Oh, note that they have all obtained above 80%.

The class cheers.

SIR: We have our number 3 being Grace, let’s clap hands for her.

The class cheers as Grace goes forward.

SIR: The number 2 spot goes to Brian, congratulations boy.

Cheering continues.
SIR: We have our superstar who has obtained more than 90%. Let’s clap hands for Arco.

More cheering.

AYANDA: (softly) Our superstar, my foot.

SIR: I beg your pardon, Ayanda!

AYANDA: Sorry sir, my lips just slipped.

SIR: I hope so. Okay! Let’s give them some round of applause as we appreciate their hard work. I’m also proud with most of you. It shows you are putting a lot of effort in taking your studies seriously. Keep it up. Though, some of you still need to work harder as you’re having your second test very soon. I’m expecting a 100% pass rate from this class. If you ever have any challenges, I’m always available in my office to assist and also I advise you guys to form groups. Well, if there’s nothing else, let’s turn to page 49 for some scope.
