[It’s 5 a.m. and Megan is preparing for school. She receives a call from Loyiso.]
Loyiso: Good morning, Sunshine!
She smiles and responds: Good morning, I hope you slept well?
Loyiso: I did. What about you?
Megan: I slept like a baby.
(Whilst having their conversation, Megan’s mother enters the room.)
Mrs Isaac: You’re going to be late for school!
Megan: (She puts her phone down and talks with her mother) Yes, mom.
(The mother exits and Megan picks up the phone.)
Megan: I’m sorry. That was my mother.
Loyiso: I understand. Let’s meet after school at Jonny’s restaurant.
Megan: I’ll see you then.
Loyiso: I can’t wait. I love you, Megan!
Megan: I love you too, Loyiso.
Megan’s mother shouts from downstairs.
Megan: I need to go, see you later.
Loyiso: Take care, remember that you’re loved.
(She smiles, switches off her phone and rushes downstairs for breakfast.)
Megan: Morning everybody!
Mr Isaac: Morning, princess! (kisses her cheek)
Mrs Isaac: Was that Lumkelo?
Megan: Where?
Mrs Isaac: The one that you were taking to on the phone?
Megan: Oh! Yes, silly me. What are we eating?
Mr Isaac: Your favourite, bacon and egg.
Megan: You’re the best!
(They ate and Megan went to school. At Salisbury High School, Lumkelo and Megan are walking to class.)
Lumkelo: What do we have first lesson?
Megan: Maths.
Lumkelo: The Devil himself!
Megan: (laughing) Mr Richards is no devil. Actually, he is a great teacher.
Lumkelo: If he’s so great, why do you fail his subject?
Megan: Ouch, that hurts!
Lumkelo: (She tries to kiss Megan) Let me make it better!
Megan: You’re disgusting!
(They enter Mr Richards’ classroom.)
Mr Richards: Good Morning! I hope we had a lovely weekend?
Brandon: It was too hectic! I can’t wait for the holidays.
Mr Richards: Young gentleman, are you going to pass?
Brandon: Definitely! (He stands up and smiles)
Lumkelo: Look at him!
Brandon: Shut up!
Mr Richards: That’s a lady, treat her like one!
(Megan is smiling.)
Mr Richards: Miss Isaac, are you okay?
Megan: Forgive me. It’s just that I like a man who knows how to take care of a woman.
(The pupils in the classroom stare at each other.)
Mr Richards: And I like a woman who knows how to spot a real gentleman!
(The bell rings and the pupils exit the classroom. It’s 15:00 and school is over for the day.
Megan: I’ll see you tomorrow. (Megan hugs Lumkelo)
Lumkelo: I thought we were supposed to meet up this afternoon?
Megan: I can’t. I’m meeting up with Loyiso.
Lumkelo: Then we can double date. You, Loyiso, Zach and I. (She smiles)
Megan: Sure. We’re meeting up at Jonny’s restaurant.
(The four friends are at Jonny’s restaurant.)
Loyiso: What a surprise!
Lumkelo: Hey, look at you!
Zach: How’s it going, champ?
Loyiso: I’m good, Zach. (Zach and Loyiso shake hands). Madam Lumka! Still as beautiful as ever!
Zach: Hey! That’s my lady, watch it!
Megan: (she laughs) He wouldn’t dare!
Lumkelo: Let’s order, people!
(The waiter takes their order.)
Lumkelo: Cheese burger and lemon juice.
Megan: I’d also like a cheese burger but with an orange juice.
Waiter: What about the men?
Zach: Ribs, fried chips and cranberry juice please.
Loyiso: I’ll have a chicken salad with a guava juice.
(The waiter leaves, and after 15 minutes he brings their meals.)
Lumkelo: So, Loyiso when are you going to propose to my best friend?
Megan: (she laughs) Friend, we are still young.
Loyiso: But I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
Zach: Man, you’re still in high school!
Lumkelo: It was meant to be a joke but I see that Loyiso took the whole matter seriously.
Loyiso: It was just a thought.
Megan: I’m glad.
Lumkelo: This was fun. Thank you but we’ve got to go. (Lumkelo hugs Megan)
(Lumkelo and Zach exit the restaurant)
Loyiso: Baby, about what Lumkelo said?
Megan: What about it? Loyiso, I’m still young. How can I be a wife at the age of 17? (She screams at him and
everyone is staring at her)
Loyiso: Stop shouting. It was just a suggestion. Please forgive me!
(Megan leaves without saying goodbye.)
