Dana was chopping the tomatoes while chatting with Nina. It was a calm cool afternoon. The chicken was boiling and spreading a spicy aroma around the kitchen. Time was flying but Dana thought she would quickly finish cooking before Joshua fetched Nina.

She had missed Nina and wanted to make a special meal. But she couldn’t catch up with time and Joshua was hooting at the gate. He was in a hurry and didn’t want to wait any longer. Although the food was ready, there was no time to eat.

The evening was here and it was dark. Dana needed a torch to walk Nina to the gate but she suddenly realized that she could dish food into a lunchbox and have Nina take it home.

“Nina, could you please tell Joshua to give me a minute.” She ran back to the entrance door but on her way there she crashed into a tree and felt a sharp, piercing pain below her knees. But she ignored it.

After releasing Joshua and Nina with a foodie lunchbox, Dana got inside the house and realized that she had been followed by a trail of blood. The wound was deep with a small branch stuck in it. Dana panicked but there was no-one to help. She took a kitchen cloth, placed it between her teeth and bit it while she carefully removed the little piece of wood in her wound. It hurt but she knew leaving it there would only cause severe damage.

The pain lasted for a day but the scar is a daily reminder of that night. The stares she gets whenever she wears a skirt…Dana wishes to have the scar disappear but cannot. Maybe someday, when she is financially stable, she would buy skin products to help fade the scar.
