I always thought there was no such thing as “love at first sight”. I mean, how can you fall for someone you just met? Well, that was before I experienced it myself.

It was on a Friday, and my best friend, Andiswa, had invited me out for a lunch. She was a busy person, so the only time we had to catch up was during her lunch-break. We were supposed to catch up over lunch. I waited for 15 minutes, then I decided to call her. The phone rang, and she answered after a few seconds.

“Andiswa, where are you?” I asked.

“Askies chomie, but I can’t make it. Sebevele banginika omunye umsebenzi la,” she responded.

“Andiswa, why didn’t you tell me? Now I have to eat lunch alone,” I said.

“I’m sorry babe, I’ll make it up to you,” she said, then she hung up.

After Andiswa hung up, I was still confused and a little bit upset about what she had done. How could she just leave me hanging like that? I decided that it was okay, and that I will eat lunch alone. Just before I could order something to eat, I felt someone touch my shoulder from behind.

“How can a beautiful lady like you sit alone?” I heard a charming voice say.

“I’m waiting for prince charming to come and join me,” I responded, turning to see who it was.

I was amazed. It was the most handsome guy I had ever seen. He was towering, impressively tall, and he was also light skinned. We lock eyes, and he had deep-set blue eyes and they sparkled. I was lost in his ocean eyes, and I felt butterflies in my stomach and my knees weakened.

“Can I join you?” he asked with a dazzling smile.

I could not utter a word in response because I was charmed. His beautiful smile had made my heart melt. Before he could sit, his phone rang. He then went outside to answer it, and the next thing I saw was him rushing to his car. I was so disappointed and hurt at the same time, and I even lost the appetite for eating. I decided to go to the flat I was renting and take a nap.

That day, I could not do anything without thinking about that gentleman I had met. I think I might have liked him because love may be a drastic word to define what I felt for him. Unfortunately, I did not get his name or his phone number, but I hope to see him again someday.
