Long ago in the villages of Africa, lived a young, brave and intelligent little boy named Knowledge. He was living with his single mother in poverty. His mother believed in him and supported him in his studies. Knowledge did not live a life of a normal child his age; he never had friends at school but that didn’t mean he hated everyone. He studied in the hope of bringing change in his family, since he was the only boy in the house.

He studied and wrote his final exams for Grade 9 and he passed with high marks in Mathematics and Science. It was so obvious that in Grade10 he would be going to the A class. His mother was very proud of him and she prayed that God be with him and that nothing stand in his way to success.

But in Grade 10, Knowledge discovered that he had a challenge. His challenge was that he was now struggling to choose a career. Becoming a doctor, chemist, well-known businessman, mechanical engineer and pilot were all on his mind. Things were becoming very complicated for him so he tried to reach out to his LO teacher but that didn’t help either.

His mother tried to motivate him but he had to make a decision on his own. His mother considered him becoming a surgical doctor, but Knowledge was never interested since he knew that he was very scared of blood. He thought of becoming a pilot but he discovered that was a big risk, he was afraid of crashing a plane. As for becoming a well-known businessman, there was money needed to start up your own business or to invest in other businesses, so that wouldn’t work.

In Grade11, still struggling to choose a career, he was very confused and that confusion almost made him lose focus. Then his mother suggested that he keep on studying and would choose a career later on. Knowledge kept on performing well in his studies and continued to obtain the top achiever awards. He wrote his final exams for Grade11 and passed to Grade12.

Matric was the most challenging time of his life, a year that completely changed everything.

At home, his mother had to do all the house work alone while Knowledge was busy studying. There was no money to pay for his university fees, so he had to get a bursary. His mother didn’t blame him. At school he didn’t go to break, while others were playing outside he sat in class reading or studying on his own. He had a purpose.

He wrote his final exams and passed with distinctions in Mathematics and Science studies.

Three days later, some big fancy cars stopped outside of Knowledge’s yard and white men walked towards the yard. Knowledge was very frightened after he saw them from his room’s window. They knocked on the door and his mother went to answer. Wow! You should have seen her.

Unfortunately, she was not able to hear them because they spoke in English, so she rushed to fetch Knowledge from his room. He came and negotiated with the white men. Guess what they wanted?

The white men were coming from France and wanted Knowledge to tell them his career so that they can supply him with a bursary. Knowledge didn’t believe his ears. He now was finished.

So, he just had to choose mechanical engineering, even though he didn’t have any interest in it. He was told that he was the one who obtained position one in the whole province. He was given a brand new house and a car from the government. He gave his mother the house and car and left her to go and study in France.

After five years he came back home as a well-known businessman and a mechanic. His dream was fulfilled and he and his mother lived happily ever after.
