I woke up to the news that my love had left me. I was surrounded by pity faces of people from the neighbourhood. Everybody was telling me that it was going to be alright. What is going to be alright? Who abandoned me? I thought to myself. You can imagine how confused I was, it was like waking up from a bad dream.
Nobody gave me a chance to ask what they were on about. They were speaking in riddles. I kept hearing, “Poor child, she thought it was the right thing to do. She dedicated almost her whole life to a lie. Some people are born cruel.”
I had fallen asleep on the couch; it looked like I had spent the night there. When I woke up, I was surrounded by woman, uttering words I couldn’t make out. I looked into their eyes; they had turned red. What I couldn’t comprehend was why they were in our house holding my hands, brushing my hair out of my face and telling me that it was going to be fine.
I looked around, desperately searching for my love. Maybe he would tell me what was going on here, I thought to myself. But then, as I was searching around the house with my eyes, I felt a knot in my stomach. Are we being robbed? What is going on? Where is our furniture? I asked screaming, rounding the couch I was sleeping on over and over. The couch was the only thing that was left.
“No honey, no one robbed you,” a voice from a female said. She walked in the house, walking like a princess, swaying her hips side to side. She was very flamboyant. She looked at me from head to toe and said, “I am the one, the chosen one.” Then she left.
I sat there like a frigid fish. I could feel my lips trembling, my whole body was sweating and shaking. Tears were flowing. A hush fell over the room. I couldn’t believe what I just saw and heard.
I woke up to the news that my love had left me. He abandoned me like yesterday’s cabbage. He told the whole neighbourhood that I was gullible and foolish. And that he was moving on, moving on with ‘the one, the chosen one.’
Rumour has it that he spoke so confidently of how he was passing time with me. He said I was just part of his plan. He told them he was waiting for the one, the chosen one. And now that she walked back into his life and brought abundance of happiness it was time to let go.
