As I was sitting in my bedroom, my eyes were wandering around until I saw a Bible I was given by a friend. I grabbed the bible and started going through it. As I was reading the book of Proverbs, I came through an interesting verse which reads, “Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live”. The message is not ambiguous, it is as clear as it is and it is not hard to understand even if a person is a nonbeliever.

It is quite appalling how most of the African individuals have perished and some live to suffer in their daily lives. All this oppression is done by their leaders who promised them a better life from the colonizers. I then realised that the devil comes in different forms, Adam and Eve too were deceived by a snake and believed its word. So how hard can it be to deceive an ordinary human being?

In central Africa and neighbouring countries, political leaders once hailed as heroes have managed to silence those who criticise their decisions, protest against them and those who try to run presidential races with them. Most of the African families have been held captive, mercilessly killed and their daughters sexually enslaved. Many men, women and children are trapped in a poverty circle and it will take at least a miracle to escape.

In South Africa, the country where I come from, fallen heroes and heroines have played their role in fighting against the oppression of apartheid. Most of them are believed to have emerged from a ruling party named the African National Congress, a party once respected by many and now crumbling in its own shadow because of the current leadership. Abuse of power seems to be the order of the day. Whenever citizens speak out against the ruling party, they are reminded of how the ANC fought for this freedom.

People are now fed up with this emotional blackmail and with succumbing to leaders trying to tarnish their beloved country. As ordinary citizens, we acknowledge and appreciate those who fought for democracy but we refuse the abuse of power by our leaders. We have a well-known president but he is known for notorious things. It is not a secret that despite his wrong doings, the president is not held accountable for anything.

As I concluded my Bible reading, I came across a scripture which reads: “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity”. All of these helped me to understand why the entire ANC caucus does not want to let go of their leader. For some reason, all these doings remind me of the book I did at school called Animal Farm. The most outstanding rule in Animalism was, “ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS”. In due time, all South African citizens will rebel against the current leadership.
