In December 2019 the World Health Organisation (WHO) was informed a virus in Wuhan, China. The virus known as Coronavirus and has spread to many countries big and small.
COVID-19 is a worldwide pandemic. COVID-19 has been passed on to many people and many people have died. On the 15th of March 2020 South Africa got its first case of Coronavirus from a group of travellers from South Africa who went to Italy and returned to South Africa because of the high case alert in Italy.
The year has brought many surprises, people said, β2020 the year of plenty,β and yes it has brought plenty of things like the COVID-19 pandemic, corruption, PPE tender, fraud and gender based violence. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on the 23rd of March 2020, a nationwide 21 day lockdown, but he extended the lockdown and we are currently 380 +/- days in lockdown.
Schools closed, major businesses and cities forced to close, learners with university students were advised and required to study at home. COVID-19 has brought many restrictions on livelihoods, masks became mandatory, social distancing and staying inside was to be enforced and if not a fine or imprisonment was to be in place if anybody broke the rules.
The government in South Africa is trying their best to end it because it is new and killing people. Only if we stay inside and adhere the government rules, can we the curb the Coronavirus and have a normal life again. So always, wear a mask and keep your social distance.
Tell us: Why is it important to follow the coronavirus rules, set by the government?
