I’m from a place where women and children have no say. Where we are men’s prey. And the authorities play deaf. Where we are seen as a ground, for them to play.

I’m from a place where you need to run away fast when a man says “I love you” because they just might kill you or take you to the ICU.

I’m from a place where mental illness has been deemed a demon and the youth dies inside. A place where the music is louder than the cry of a baby being abducted.

I’m from a place where love and happiness are needed. Where girl children can’t trust their uncles and have to memorize “10111” in case they are in danger. Alcohol and drugs are more important than the daily meal and society has a lot to heal from.
