Savannah Steyn is a passionate storyteller who aims to reach others and provoke thought through her colourful and multi-faceted work. Graduating from the University of Cape Town with a BA in Theatre and Performance specializing in Theatre Making, she has moved on to further her love of serving others and academia by pursuing a Masters in Applied Theatre and Drama Studies at the University of Cape Town. She has a background in art, drama, creative writing and history.
Since the young age of nine years old she has cultivated a variety of skills and disciplines in her ambitions to become a recognised storyteller and scholar. Acting since primary school and trained with the Royal College of Drama (2014 – 2015) and the Trinity College of London (2016) with high distinctions and merits under the mentorship of Mrs Penelope Glover; Savannah has also done dancing, writing, set and lighting design as well as stage management, choreography and directing over the last 14 years. She has collaborated and worked in the field of Applied Theatre with organisations such as Oasis (2017) and Oxfam (2018-2019) while working under the supervision and mentorship of Kate Jaskolski and Dr Veronica Baxter. In 2019 she took part in one of the first David Kramer Master Classes held at the Baxter Theatre learning the ins and outs of how to write a musical. One of her most notable works as a playwright is the She box (2020) which has been professional staged in 2022 and is set to perform in this year’s Mini-Zabalaza Festival. Savannah’s plays which have been published on Fundza’s platform are 3C and True Story.
