I think that books on cellphones are one of the best ideas ever and I love to imagine readers of all shapes and sizes absorbed in stories at any hour of the day or night. A ‘library in every pocket’ brings such enrichment of lives, and creates vast and exciting opportunities. I’ve experienced some of these opportunities first hand, and feel very lucky to have played varied roles in the emerging world of mobooks/m-novels/screenbooks (whichever you prefer!) since these were first introduced in South Africa in 2009. Only Japan had a flourishing cellphone story culture before us, and I’m just a little obsessed with tracking the growing mobook culture in South Africa and Africa, and keeping an eye on it’s beginnings in the USA too.
I’ve had five cellphone novels published on different mobisites from Yoza to Young Africa Live and World Reader, and I’d like to thank FunDza for the opportunity of working with them on ‘Living on the Edge’ (or Ho Phela Tlokotsing in Sesotho’)’ and for publishing it amongst the many fantastic mobi books on FunDza.
To the wonderful readers out there – it’s been fabulous to have you along on Pheliswa’s journey, and to hear what you have to say about it all. Thank you!
