My name is Brian Fredericks. I grew up in Elsies River in Cape Town. I studied Electrical Engineering, Refrigeration, and Ventilation at the College of Cape Town. My first published stories were in the anthology ‘Nuwe Stories 2’. Two of my stories were published in the Woordfees Bly en Iets Anders. Some of my short stories appeared in Son newspaper. My debut short story collection, As die cape flats kon praat was published in 2020. It was on the shortlist for the UJ-prize and the Jan Rabie Rapport-prize. It won the K. Sello Duiker Memorial Prize at the South African Literary Awards 2021. I’m currently at work on my first novel.
