Anita
After I dropped Selena off at the hospital I went straight to Scorpion. He had many things to explain, If he was the one who planned things with Darren yesterday which I think he did then he had me to answer to.
Selena almost died yesterday for what exactly just because she won the game against the big gambling Darren. I hated men who taught they could take advantage of a woman just because she’s a woman.
If Scorpion had betrayed me just if, I would cut his balls. I don’t care who he think he is. I would cut any fool’s balls who think he could mess with me.
I was no longer the nerd Anita, Definitely not the girl who allowed the school’s bad boy to deflower her in the car only the next day to get a breakup text.
I grew up in an orphanage, abandoned by my parents. It was a nightmare living with humans while you were a witch, I even tried committing a suicide. And when I met him I was desperate for anyone who was like me only for him to tarnish the little confidence I had.
I knew from that day not to trust anyone.
The security guards at Scorpion’s penthouse allowed me in without trouble which was a first.
I got inside the penthouse and found Scorpion in his office. He looked up from his files.
“I knew you would come”,he said and told me to seat.
“Don’t you dare bull shoot me! Do you know that Selena almost died?” I shouted at him.
“Anita sit your ass down,” he growled at me but I didn’t take his order. “Whether you believe me or not I didn’t plan anything with Darren. If I did I would’ve been dead this way or the other.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“That Darren pulled that on his own accord.” he said
I sat down on the chair and took a moment to process that before turning to him.
“But why would Darren want to kill Selena, If he didn’t have you on his side?” I asked him because it made no sense. Darren wasn’t someone I could call stupid. He wouldn’t kill Selena in Mark’s club if he knew no one would back him up.
“I didn’t work with him, You didn’t work with him then it leave only one person. Mark.” he said and, poured himself a glass of whiskey and emptied it in one gulp before refilling it.
I gasped,“Mark wouldn’t do that, he treats Selena as his daughter.”
He handed me the glass which I gladly took it.
“Except she’s not.”
I sipped at the glass,“I don’t believe you.”
Mark wouldn’t do that, would he?
Scorpion passed me a file.
“Take a look at that.”
I gave him a suspicious glance before reading the file. By the time I was through I had already emptied the glass.
“Baby Jesus, that’s terribly. Did he really kill his wife and the baby?”
With the past I had very little surprised me but the file did.
“But it still doesn’t say why he wantes to kill Selena.”
“Do you know why I said I’d die if I killed Selena?” I nodded my head no, “Because I wouldn’t mess with what belong to the Vampire King.”
There’s that name again, The Vampire King. The most feared vampire on earth and the supernatural world.
I heard very little about him and what I knew is not good at all, that I even nicknamed him to be The King of the darkness. Just out of respect for him.
“What does he want from her? Selena is barely nineteen, she can’t deal with him.” I said scared for her.
“If I tell you then I’d have to kill you.” he said which made me angry at him
“What! Don’t you care? She saved your life from your Uncle!”
Why wouldn’t he care after what she had done for him. Selena like me, never had an easy life. She was fifteen when her mother got sick, she had to drop out of school and when Dragon, (Scorpion’s late uncle) offered her a job she took it only to find out she had to kill his niece but she spared his ass.
“Do you really think I don’t care. Selena saved my life from my sick uncle and I would forever be indebted to her. She gave me a wake up call which got me out of varsity and revenging my parent’s death.
“But one thing I learnt from life is that. You don’t mess with The Vampire King’s territory.”
“Why Mark?”
“I bet any supernatural who knows about this is on the hunt for Selena.”
“But still you won’t tell me what The Vampire King want from her. Then how am I supposed to help her.”
When he didn’t answer. I left his penthouse. Selena didn’t need this, she had her mother to worry about. I drove straight to Mark’s house. The club was now a crime scene just for the public eye because I knew Mark had bribed the police.
I entered his house without knocking how could he betray us like this. The house was too quite and too clean for Mark, maybe because he hardly stayed there. He spent most of his time in the club.
“Mark!” I shouted not wanting to go upstairs.
Mark was dangerous even though I was brave I kept that in mind. After a minute he descended the stairs.
“Anita, how is Selena?” he asked
“She’s fine. What? Are you dissapointed that your plan to kill her didn’t work?”
“What are you talking about? I wouldn’t kill Selena,” he said sounding offended and damn the old man could act.
“Don’t give me that! I spoke to Scorpion and he wasn’t behind what Darren did theother day.
“We both know that Darren has no backbone there’s no way he could’ve pulled that.”
“I was no friend of Darren’s. I never talked to him about something other than a polite greeting I met him through Selena just like you did.”
“Are you saying that Selena had something to do with that?” I asked him unable to believe him.
“You’ll be shocked what people would do for money,” he shrugged.“Do you want a drink?”
“Give it to your ugly cat!” I said pointing to Miracle who was gawking at me. I was out of the door before he could think about what I said.
He had some balls for pinning all that on Selena. I once trusted Mark but now I hate him. I drove around the street just to calm myself before going back to the apartment.
When I drove to the apartment. I found Selena staring at the TV and I could see that she was deep in thoughts.
“This is the part where Will dies,” I said bringing her back from her taughts.
“What did you say?” she asked and I went to seat next to her on the couch.
“This is the part where Will dies. You’re watching Me before you.” I tell her while she turn back to the TV, “You of all people should understand what Louise is going through.”
“Just because my mother is dying that doesn’t mean that I should cry at every emotional moment I see on the TV.” she snapped
I sighed, “Selena don’t you think it’s high time you go back to school?” her eyes widened at what I said. Maybe because I never brought it up.
“I mean it’s obvious you’re missing out a lot. You won’t work in a club for the rest of your life. I’m worried about you and your future.
“You need to think about yourself as well. You never had an easy life I understand but live a little, okay. Take a break, make friends and get a boyfriend.”
“Why would I need friends when I have you?”she said it in a way that it was more like a statement than a question.
I smiled at her, “Is that the only thing you caught in what I said?”
“No, but going to school and hooking up feels like more burden on my shoulders. Even if I would like to but the truth is that I was never a normal teenager.” she said
“Okay forget about the making friends thing but school is important….”
“So are boys right?” she teased and I laughed
“No they are not, they are just there.” I said and she turned off the TV and turned to me.
“Okay I’ve a confession,” she said and looked at my all smiles face before continuing.
I listened to her while she talked and encouraged her with mhh’s and ohh’s. When she yawned I told her to go to bed and we’ll talk about it tomorrow.
Even though I was glad to be in bed I didn’t stop thinking about Selena. I was shocked when she told me about Connor but I didn’t want to worry her about what I knew.
I had to talk to Connor the next morning. I was still struggling to sleep when I heard a cat’s meowing sounds.
I turned to look when I saw Miracle,Mark’s cat in my window seal. It’s eyes were crimson red .
I froze for sometime before I could scream there was blackness.
I had a vision, something that happened not all the time. I was screaming for help when Selena came when I asked her to help me she laughed and revealed her fangs before he sucked the blood out of me.
I cried and woke up in the darkness with the dream still in my mind but not remembering what happened yesterday.
