A week later, Jocelyn suggested that they should go out with Cry on a date to grow their bond. Cry was okay with that, but Joseph insisted that is cool if he is not going to be part of the date. Jocelyn told Cry and she was fine about that too. On a random Saturday, Jocelyn called Cry to ask her if they could still go out. “Hi, Cry, are you available today?” “Yes, for sure. Do you have some duty that you want me to do?” “I see you as my friend. I mean, we are about the same age, and I value your presence in my life. I don’t like it when you see yourself as a minor to me. Could we still go out?” “Yeah sure, we can go out, when are you suggesting we should go out since you know, apart from feeding my children, I have nothing that keeps me busy?” “What about today? Could you manage.” “Yeah, only if it’s fine if I bring my two children since there is nobody next door?” “Oh, that is cool. Is your daughter used to stay with your neighbors whenever you go somewhere? I was not aware of that.” “Yeah, Joy likes playing with the boys at my neighbor’s home, so she has no problem when I leave her with them.” “I am coming to fetch you just now at your house.” ‘That is cool, I will wait for you.”

She arrived at Cry’s house and parked at the gate. It took her less than five minutes to get there since their houses were not far apart from one another. She got out wearing her long black dress and black modern wedges which she was long given by a White lady she worked for. The color of the dress was turning into green due to being heated by the sun for the last two years. She got into the car and Jocelyn drove to Mall of Africa. In the car on a highway there was Joy who was sitting silently and starring cars on the left side of the car through the window, Friday who was sucking her mother’s breast with his eyes closed, Cry who was having a deep conversation with Jocelyn and obviously Jocelyn responding to Cry’s sad and funny stories. They got to the mall and went to the parking lot, and then went to look for the most stunning restaurant. They entered Tashas, and ordered they desired meals.

While eating their orange mille-feuille cakes, Friday who was in the left arm of his mother began to sob. Cry stopped eating. Joy who was less concerned about her younger brother continued eating, holding a knife with her right hand and a fork with her left hand. The focus of the people who sat nearby was drawn towards their table, as Friday was now sobbing without pause. Cry strived to feed him warm milk from his baby bottle of the mouth of a nipple. Friday portrayed an angry face, and got rid of the bottle out of his mouth by her tongue. Cry got confused and had no idea what to do. She held her head with one hand, resembling a scholar thinking about solving a problem. She spontaneously took out her breast of medium size attempting to breastfeed him, and the people around them would not focus their eyes on anything but her. A woman on the other table approached her to aggressively tell her that she cannot breastfeed a child in a restaurant. When she asked the reason she said so, the woman told her that it is disgusting and disrespectful to them and the other people around.

“I find it hard to believe that you think it is appropriate to breastfeed your baby in a restaurant full of customers,” the woman said. Cry did not have a mouth at this point. She looked the woman in the eye and kept quiet. “Can’t you see that people have come with their husbands here, and so I have?” the woman asked. Jocelyn’s patience began being provoked. At this point she was disgusted and could not wait until the woman asks another embarrassing question. Jocelyn aggressively stood up and looked the woman in the eye and said, “can you not see that my friend is feeding her baby?” “I see, but why doesn’t she do that outside the restaurant?” “Rubbish ma’am, where is she gonna get the time to go outside to breastfeed the baby and come back here?” “Well, she could also wait until she is out of this restaurant so she can breastfeed her infant.” “Oh yeah? So that infant can wait with an empty stomach until her mother is in a private space to feed her? Is that what you mean?” “So, it’s better for a woman to stay naked in front of our husbands yeah?” “Well, this is for a good course, it is unlike wearing a mini dress to expose your private parts to attract males. This baby here deserves to be breastfed at any time and you aren’t gonna stop that. If you feel like you can stop that, consider consulting the manager of this establishment to confirm whether there’s anywhere it is written in the service policy that breastfeeding is prohibited in this store.” As their voices could be heard by someone outside the restaurant, the manager went close by to figure out what was the nature of the verbal fight. After understanding the issue, the manager said, “woman, I totally understand your concern and warmly respect that. I am glad that you are concerned about the customers of this establishment, and I thank you for that. However, I am confused by how you are so mean to the mother of this infant because you are a woman too. I wonder where your sympathy is hiding itself. Perhaps, it does not even exist. I think you should understand that it is okay to breastfeed a baby in a restaurant despite other people being around. Obviously, everyone is here to eat, and why should the baby eat not something too? Isn’t he human enough?”

Finally, the woman compromised, and an agreement was reached. It was now late in the afternoon, Cry who was now exhausted suggested they should prepare to go home so they can both rest. Friday was now asleep and Joy who was smiling seemed to have had a wonderful day. Jocelyn bought the kids of Cry clothes to show love and appreciation towards them and their mother. They returned to home, and Jocelyn dropped them at their gate. It was getting darker outside, and the redness of the sky was being swallowed away. On this date, Jocelyn had a better chance to bond with her friend and they understood each other. She also found out that her friend is used to hanging out more with Blacks and her Black friend is Amogelang who is always there for her. Jocelyn assured her that she would also love to make bonds with Blacks because it’s a cordial thing. She feels like there is no difference in humanity amongst people of different ethnic groups.
