Once everything was broken down, her mother stopped. “I had to break it.” Her mother started.

“There was a voice constantly ringing on my ear that I am a traitor.” Her mother said.

“What did you do?” Nomcebo asked in confusion.

“Ntobeko came here and asked me what did I do to gain this beautiful life and promised not tell anyone. I told her about Iluma from the dam and how we never went to bed hungry and how I could buy anything with that R20.” Her mother’s shoulders sagged “Everything changed from there, I heard that they went to find Iluma the girl from the dam carrying torches but they never saw her, nevermind getting near the dam. They could see the dam from but afar but they could not reach it.”

Nombuso’s legs gave out as she realised what had happened and fell down to the floor. They had lost everything just because her mother could not keep het mouth shut about their sudden luck.

Life went back to the way it was before, the once beautiful house got broken down into, all that was left was rubble, they built their shack again, and once again they slept with hungry stomachs every now and again.

Even with her outstanding results from High School she could not get into any school nor find a job. She had lost everything and she never saw Iluma ever again.

Sometimes it’s best to work in silence and let other’s wonder about you, Never over share and mind those who wish bad things upon you.
