And he was here in exactly 8 minutes, but I can’t complain because it aint like I take time to get ready. I drag him out before my mother can even grill him. He takes me to a swimming pool, we sat there with our feet inside the water with our pants all rolled up to our knees while eating ice cream.
I stabbed the ice cream with the spoon and sighed “You won’t be able to see me in the coming week.” I say stirring the now melting ice cream “I am going to do a surgery.” I said now resting the cup of ice cream on the floor besides me.
“For what?”
“Breast cancer. The other day you saw me rushing out of the clinic it was because I was told that the tumor is coming back and stronger this time and the only thing, I can do to make sure that it does not spread to other parts of the body is to remove my breasts.” I say looking at my reflection on the water.
“On which day?”
“Next week Wednesday.”
He holds my hand and give me a tight lipped smile “How about we go out the night before your surgery and make you feel a little bit special.” I look up “I would love that.” I say resting my head on his shoulder.
“I have cancer too, a lung cancer.”
I lift up my head and look at him “Are you okay?” He smiles “I’m okay.”
