“I’ve been thinking about what you said.” Dlangamandla says to his wife, as he watches her place the plate in front of the forbidden room.

“Yes?” She says

“I think Mayibenathi is old to have a sibling. They wouldn’t have a bond whatsoever. Nathi will be 16 when the child is born.” He says.

Nomathemba sighs, “But I’m bored.”

“And you think a baby will fix that?” Dlangamandla walks away.

Nomathemba follows after her husband. She closes the door to their bedroom.

“A baby will keep me on my toes.” She reasons.

Dlangamandla shrugs. “I’ll see what Mayibenathi feels about that. Did you get any rest today?”

She nods. She’s lying.

“Uh..what did you say happened to your ex wife?” Nomathemba somehow, finds the courage to ask.

Dlangamandla turns and looks at her. His eyes go darker than they already are. “Why?” He half shouts.

“I just need to know.” Nomathemba shrugs, trying to play it off.

Dlangamandla stares at her intently, then shrugs off his blazer, throwing it on the bed.

“She went into depression after the death of our only child. I had no choice but to admit her.” He replies.

“Was Your child a boy?”

“Yeah” He walks into their en suite bathroom.

Nomathemba sits down. She can’t understand her dreams and their strange link to her husband. Is the woman she keeps seeing her husband’s ex wife? Is the little boy who haunts her dreams and thoughts the son he lost?

She sighs and throws her head on her hands, her daughter walks in.

“Whats wrong, ma?” She asks her.

“How would you feel about having a sibling?”

Mayibenathi looks shocked, then her gaze falls down her mom’s tummy. She stands up and walks towards the tall mirror.

“Are you pregnant?” She asks her mom.

“Would that be a problem?”

“If you’re pregnant, my friends will be looking at you and knowing what you and dad have been up to. This is embarrassing.” Mayibenathi says selfishly.

“Wouldn’t you love your sibling?”

“Mom, I remember when I was 8 I asked you, in fact I begged. Now this is all very embarrassing.” Mayibenathi cries. “This happened to Tonya, her mom was pregnant last year and she faced torment and ridicule.”she sobs.

Nomathemba hugs her daughter and hushes her.
