Her hands were itching to want to get on top of all of this. When they arrived at the crime scene there was only one officer standing outside when he saw both Slindile and Samuels approaching he stepped on the cigarette he was smoking “You must be the detectives.”

Samuels nodded “I’m detective Samuels and my partner here is detective Nxumalo.”

“Nice to meet you, I go by as Jeffery.” He said as they walked in.

The first smell that hit Slindie was the smell of death, death has its own smell that is just unmistakably but it was not as wrong as she thought it would be. The body was long by now since they got the case a day later.

“This is where she was lying.”

Slindile looked at the wall where the blood had sprayed, it was not much which showed how precise the killer was.

“She was killed in an element of surprise because there was sign of self defence and little to no evidence left behind.” Jeffery continued.

“Who found her?” Samuels asked as he stuffed his hands in his pockets
“Just a local kid who usually does Mrs Gina’s garden, when he knocked there was no answer and assumed that perhaps the old woman was making them tea and just couldn’t hear the knock and when he walked in he saw that,” he said not offering anything more.

“Thank you.” Samuel said as he walked out, with Slindile following her from the behind. “What now?” Slindile asked.

“Now, we go and talk to the neighbours, maybe there is one person who saw or heard something.” They went and knocked on the opposite house.

After they introduced themselves Samuels gave Slindile a chance to speak “Have heard or seen something.” The man shook her head “I was in a basement, I could not hear anything sorry.”

They carried on to next house and another they all proved to be fruitless. There was only house left Slindile knocked this time, a woman walked out wearing yoga pants and a sports bra indicating that she was exercising.

“I’m detective Samuels and this is detective Nxumalo we are from the SAPS in Tembisa, we are investigating your neighbours death and might have wondered if you have heard or seen anything?”

“I don’t know if this is worth anything, but I saw a car parked across the street.” She said nodding as if pointing with her head “I was taking my trash out and did not think much about it but when I came out after 15 minutes the car was still there and it was no car that I recognised. And a minute later I heard a knock on Gina’s house, I didn’t look over cause I didn’t want to come across as being nosey.”

Slindile and Samuels looked at each other as if to say that they have something.
