Sindile looked herself on the mirror and smile today was her day. She smiled as she put on her formal, she was a detective just like her father Jacob who was the best in the business.
She took a deep breath hoping that her breathing will calm her down. Slindile went to the kitchen and quickly took an apple from the counter, not even sure if she’ll even eat any of it. She hurried over outside not wanting to be late for her first day she made sure to get out 30 minutes earlier.
With her stomach in stomach in knots she ended up giving her apple to one kid who was passing by and quickly got inside the taxi. Her heart was beating in drums but above all the nerve there was that excitement that couldn’t be controlled. She was excited that finally she was living her own dream. She remembered when she was younger, how she loved going with her dad to work. As her kid her dad has always been her hero, when he was shot dead 15 years ago it was all the more reason to want to work with the police so as to catch the person who did this to her father.
She got out of the taxi and walked inside, the place, the smell hit her it smelt the same way as she remembered which brought over a lot of memories.
“Slindile.” A man called her over who was the Lieutenant of this place. James broke into a huge smile as her led her in deeper inside “I’m glad to meet you again, your father must be proud that you followed in his footsteps.”
She swallowed back a sob as she nodded.
“Please let me show you your office.” He said as they walked in one of the corner office where already there was a person in it. “This is detective Samuels, he is is one of our top detectives thus far.” He said as he tapped Samuels shoulder. He looked over to her and nodded “I have heard how wonderful you were in college as well, you were the top of your class which is amazing. I’m sure with your photographic memory you and Samuels will get along.” With that he walked out leaving me alone with Samuels.
“I’m George Samuels.”
“Slindile Nxumalo.”
“Nice to meet you Slindile.” he said as he handed me a cup of coffee.
