Dread and anticipation settled in my stomach, i was feeling sicker every step we took towards the enemy village. Nightfall was upon us and this would be a great time to launch an attack. With every step i took my shoulders felt heavier, as If the weight of the world was placed there. I had to pull myself together, none of us had any idea of what we’re heading into or what to expect. It was like trying to catch smoke, trying to catch smoke with my bare hands.
Sweat trickled down my face as we approached King Ajuba’s village. By dawn his head would be mine or all this would’ve been for nothing. Kika and Ule posotioned their troops on opposite sides of the village, we kept a safe distance and we did a short briefing. “I’ll target thr outer part of the palace, then you and Ule can get time to enter the main palace, this place is swarming with guards” Kika said, we would use her troops as a decoy so we can get inside.
“Well be right behind you, go lead your men” I said, almost tearing up. Kika just smiled and she signalled her troops to follow her, Ule and I would wait in the distance until we saw smoke then we’d storm the inner palace.
“Thank you for fighting with me, I can not express my gratitude” I said to Ule, he just smiled and gave my hand a little squeeze. Everything felt so much better with him near me, he felt like water when my whole mind was aflame.
Less than thirty minutes later, we saw a thick cloud of smoke in the sky, Kika had done it, she had burnt down the whole outer palace. My stomach turned as Ule and I commanded out troops into the inner palace. “For Kaffre, for fhe king!” My troops chanted as we entered the palace, the real battle begins here.
Kika suddenly came into the inner palace too, she would fight besides Ule and I. I couldn’t be more grateful. The inner palace guards came in numbers, we wasted no time. My sword became my partner in sacred dance, we were one as i took down every man that stood in my way. Kika was excellent archer, she woukd shoot her arrows with so much precision, she never missed. Ule fought with two arrows, he was so swift with it, nothing stood in his way. We took down the guards in the inner palace and as we got to the main entrance the village elders had shut the iron gate, it was impossible to open from the outside. “Step aside” Ule commanded, we all did as he said. He closed his eyes and when he opened them, his pupils were firey red, and smoke was escaping his eyes, he pushed his hands forward and a great fire escaped his palms melting the iron and leaving a big whole in the middle. My eyes widened in shock, the myths of fhe people of fire are true! Our troops wasted no time entering through and taking down everyone who stood in their way. I entered through the gate and headed straight for the King’s chambers, Kika came along with me. This was it, the only opportunity I’ll ever get to avenge my father and my people who were slain. This was it.
