I actually don’t know why my mom have to be so bitter! She treats me like I’m a toddler; always controlling me about whom I’m hanging out with? How pathetic! But I don’t want that to ruin my birthday.

Later that afternoon, I sneaked out on my bedroom window and I texted Brian to meet me at our usual place and he came as soon as I texted him.

“Hey J, Happy birthday! [hugs her]”

“I thought you forgot.”

“Me? Never!”

“So, you said you had a surprise for me?”

“Oh yeah! I nearly forgot; let’s go to my place!”

“Why?”

“Duh! It’s a surprise!”

Oh ohk; what are we waiting for?”

“Ok keep your eyes closed. In a count of 3, 2, 1, surprise!”

When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t believe it! Rose petals, wine, goodies, candles etc.

“Oh my word! Brian!”

“This is all for you.”

“Thank you for everything Brian. It means a lot!”

“You know what, I dreamt about this last night. Maybe it was a sign that I should.. you know.. make this all for you.”

“You know I also dreamt about something familiar with your dream, but it just turned into a nightmare.”

“What was your dream?”

“Let’s just drop the topic; uhm any leads about finding your mom?”

” Oh yeah; I spoke to my father yesterday and she told me everything I need to know about my mom.”

“Out with it!”

“I’m afraid I’ll have to stop looking for my mother.”

“Why? What happened? What did your father tell you?”

“My mom left me here in a doorstep. My father tried looking for her but she never returned. It is very clear that she wants nothing to do with me so what’s the point of looking for someone who never even cared in the beginning.”

“I’m so sorry Brian. Atleast your father told you about your mom; I don’t know whether my father is dead or alive!”

I’m sorry. I mean it’s your birthday so you shouldn’t be feeling like this. Let’s just Cheers to our single parents.”

“Cheers!”
