If anything happens to her trust me i will skin you alive and send you back to your father body part by body part” he said looking straight into my eyes, not breaking eye contact.
“Apologies Mr Khumalo your wife lost a lot of blood and the trauma she received led her to the coma she’s currently in. Can you please call a relatives to donate blood for them?”, the doctor said after appearing out of nowhere while my husband was killing me with his eyes. Red like how i like my wine. Wait did he just say they? Was she with a passenger with her?
“Who’s they?” i asked even though my husband hissed underneath his breathe.
“She is 27 weeks pregnant”, he said putting his hands underneath the sanitiser sensor so it can squeeze some on his hands. Oh no! What have i done?
“Can i see her?”, he asked while tears started rolling down his cheeks. He has never broke down or showed his vulnerability in front of me or in public before. See this girl has weakened my husband.
“Well of course but i do urge you to call a relative”, he said and gave us a slight smile before walking away.
I turned to look at my husband and i saw him busy scrolling through his phone and when he found the number he was looking for, he quickly jumped and called whoever he did and disappeared into the little girl’s room forgetting about his first wife.
I married my husband right before graduating from the University i met him in. He was charming and he was different from every guy that tried to court me and i fell for him. He was quite a gentleman and i loved him on the spot. He always used to walk me back from my classes and every weekend we would go out on picnics or to the movies and he was always there for me whenever i needed a shoulder to cry on. That’s why it was easy for me to choose him over a career. We used to talk about having children as soon as we got married, well his family disapproved of me. Mainly because i was white and he came from a typical Zulu family. But we were on the “its our way or the highway” route and we went to court. Right there and then he chose me over his family and i was excited, I fell for Manqoba Khumalo there very first time i met him and i knew for sure that he is the one i wish to have kids with. Well i knew he is the guy i wanted to spend my life with so the children part was a for sure thing.
But i guess its true that you should never count your eggs before they hatch. After 2 whole miscarriages the doctor labelled me unfit to carry a baby. That is how the little girl in the hospital bed entered my fairytale, She is the witch holding a poisoned apple in my fairytale and my husband happens to be the Snow White. Totally wrong right? My name is Veronica Smith-Khumalo and welcome to my fairy tale/horror.
