Our son.” I whisper to Mpendulo.

Kayla turns and her hair dramatically lays on her shoulders.

“Your what? Are you pregnant?”She asks me.

“No. We have a 3 year old son.”

“I thought you said it was just 2 months.” She says.

“I met her a while back, she fell pregnant and I ran.” Mpendulo explains.

Kayla looks defeated, she no longer looks like the strong woman she was a few minutes ago. Suddenly she grabs a chair and slumps down on it, her shoulders shaking, then covers her face. She sobs silently, Mpendulo immediately let’s his own tears fall.

He rushes to her side and cups her in his arms. He is also crying.

“Baby, I’m sorry.” He hushes her.

It’s clear these people love each other.

“Why? I gave you two kids, Mpendulo. What more do you want?” She cries.

“I’ve been so selfish, baby.” He wipes her tears, then kisses her eyes. “Forgive me.” He hugs her.

The woman sobs, and holds onto Mpendulo. Hello? I’m still here.

I clear my throat, Mpendulo gives his wife a kiss, then stands up, looking at me in pure disgust.

“You’re so naive. What made you think I’d want you back? I flash a little money and you jump? Township rat’s, all the same.” He shakes his head.

My heart beats uncontrollably against my chest, this suddenly feels like Deja vu. He has said those words to me, four years ago.

“I will raise my son, make no mistake about it. You, the only thing that’ll ever make us cross paths again, is when I fetch my son.” He states.
