Chapter 5: The Unexpected Twist – A New Love Interest!

Months passed without Junior seeing Keletso, the grey tracksuit lady. They only communicated via WhatsApp, calls, and occasional video calls. Junior was hoping for another camp, but fate had other plans. The school principal announced that the Pure Maths group would be going to Rakoko, while the Maths Lit group would be heading to Kgalatlowe. Junior was disappointed, but he had to accept the reality.

The day of the camp arrived, and Junior, along with his friends, arrived at Kgalatlowe High School. They were excited to see new faces, but Junior’s heart still belonged to Keletso. On the first day, after supper, they went straight to their rooms, exhausted.

The next morning, Junior woke up early, grumbling about the cold weather. “Kgalatlowe, you’re cold, and we have to bath; we got no choice!” After breakfast, they headed to assembly, where they saw new, pretty faces. Junior’s eyes landed on a girl with charming eyes, and he couldn’t help but stare.

“Mlungu, uyabona Mara…,” his friend said, nudging him. “Ndiya bona; they’re beautiful; I don’t wanna lie… Ndifuna Lona Nfana…” Mlungu encouraged him to approach the girl, but Junior’s eyes were elsewhere.

“Juwie Nfana, that girl’s eyes are charming, hey…,” Rego said, noticing Junior’s gaze. “Emunna wabona nare.”

Fast forward to after school, Mlungu left Junior behind, and he knew exactly where he was – chasing after a new girl! “Mlungu wa fetsa kwaa… Ska buwa Juwie nna ke batla ole hlm… Which one?… The one with an afro?” Junior asked, laughing.

Mlungu returned, looking happy, and encouraged Junior to talk to Smangele’s friend. “Wena Junior, you should talk to Smangele’s friend… Ohh, So your girl’s name is Smangele, ehh, too fast, Mlungu…”

Junior hesitated, but Mlungu convinced him to take a chance. During study time, nobody was studying; instead, Mlungu and Junior were discussing Smangele and her friend. They agreed to get her number by the end of the day.

The next day, after lunch, Mlungu suggested they go to the toilet, and that’s when they saw Smangele and her friend. Junior was introduced to Amo, Smangele’s friend, and they hit it off immediately. Amo gave Junior her WhatsApp number, and they started dating that very weekend, even sharing a kiss during study time, thanks to load shedding!

On their last day, Junior and Amo shared a hug before parting ways. Junior felt bad about breaking the news to Amo that he had a girlfriend, and Amo decided to go a different way. Junior returned home, feeling a mix of emotions, but he knew he had to move on.
