Chapter 1: Arrival at Rakoko High School – The Adventure Begins!
Junior and his friends stepped off the bus and into the unknown, their hearts racing with excitement and a hint of fear. The students from other schools seemed like a force to be reckoned with, their eyes gleaming with a fierce competitiveness. Junior felt a shiver run down his spine as he realized they were in for the wildest ride of their lives! “Welcome to Rakoko High, where the strong survive and the weak get eaten alive… just kidding, or am I?” joked Junior grinning mischievously.
As they entered the school premises, the girls were whisked away to their rooms, leaving the boys to wonder if they’d ever see them again. Junior and his friends were chatting and laughing, trying to break the ice, when Ntando suddenly asked, “Where are the girls? Did they get abducted by aliens or something? Or maybe they’re just hiding from us because we’re too hot to handle!” Junior chuckled, “Nah, they’re just getting settled in. But hey, look around! There’s another school arriving, and I think it’s Batleng High School from Tlhatlhaganyane. This is gonna be interesting… or should I say, this is gonna be a battlefield!”
Junior and Ntando decided to go down and help the new arrivals, but as they reached the stairs, Ntando spotted a girl struggling to carry her luggage. “Hey, need a hand?” he asked, flashing his most charming smile. But she ignored him, leaving Ntando looking disappointed and Junior teasing him, “Mxm, I think she’s not interested in your charms, Ntando! Maybe you should try using your brain instead of your brawn… just kidding, you’re not exactly known for your brainpower!” Ntando playfully punched Junior, “Hey, watch it, buddy!”
As they headed back upstairs, Junior joked, “No boy, let’s go back up, these girls are all mean for no reason… or maybe they’re just playing hard to get! You know what they say, ‘the harder they resist, the harder they fall’… or something like that! Ntando chuckled, “You’re such a romantic, Junior!”
After supper, they headed to their classrooms for night study, grumbling and complaining like a bunch of hungry lions. Rego yawned, “Nna ke tshwerwe ke boroko…” (I’m so tired), and Tlotlo replied, “Emunna robala…” (Let’s just sleep). But just then, the care giver arrived, “Eh, here comes the care taker, let’s open our books, bula wena mun!!” (Let’s open our books, you lot!). “And let’s hope she doesn’t find out we’ve been sneaking snacks into class… or we’re in big trouble!” whispered Junior.
The care giver warned them, “Guys, I don’t want to chase you out of school on your first night, okay? It’s study time, open your books, study! We have no time to be chasing you around, continue making noise and if I find you, I’ll only make an example with just one of you, continue!!” “Yeah, yeah, we know… ‘study hard, party harder’… or is that the other way around?” joked Ntando earning a stern glance from the care giver.
As study time came to a close, the learners were escorted back to their rooms, Junior couldn’t help but wonder what the rest of the week had in store. Little did he know, it was going to be a wild ride full of adventure, romance, and self-discovery! And maybe, just maybe, they’d even learn something along the way… but don’t hold your breath!
