It’s been five years since we escaped the Tafai commune . My husband and our two children now live in New York , where I lecture African Art at Sarah Lawrence College and he runs a successful restaurant serving ital rasta cuisine. We also run an NGO for survivors of the Tafai commune tortures ; an education fund for their children . It took us years of therapoy, meditation and yoga to move on . Somedays I have nightmares – I dream I am in the commune , harvesting corn without a drop of water to drink all day. I wake up parched .

Florence lives with her new husband in London . She owns a cat and writes for teenagers . We keep in touch .

*The end*
