The moonlight radiated directly onto Emily through the slit of her curtain. Her cheek brushed by a slight cold breeze. In her dreams, creepy giggles awoke her, she couldn’t see anything beyond the abyss. As she got out of bed, she met an endless passage filled with darkness on both sides. She made her way through the long hall, the giggling increased and became louder, louder, louder and louder until her eardrums were about to combust. To her left, she saw the body of a young girl with raven black hair floating on the surface of water. Shocked, Emily clasped her hands to her mouth. Frightened, she turned and ran away from the gruesome sight.

She then found herself in another scene, a dark room with dimmed light. As she walked deeper into the room, she felt a slight tap on her back. Afraid, she turned around. There, her vision was met by a hanging pair of shoes from the ceiling. Her eyes followed the rhythm of the hanging feet. She saw the torso of a man with a bright red tie hanging from his neck. As the corpse continued to sway from side to side, Emily woke up breathless, while attempting to scream. Panting for breath, and drowning in her own sweat.

“Honey, calm down. You just had a nightmare,” replied a soft voice from behind her. Emily recognised the voice but she was to afraid to turn around.

“It can’t be you.” Peering from out of the darkness, it was Jimmy her husband.

“Jimmy, you’re here,” said Emily in shock.

“Yes, my love. It’s me. I’m here,” replied Jimmy as he made his way closer and leaned in to give his wife a hug. Still dressed in work attire and his favourite bright red tie.

“Jimmy, My love,” said Emily with confusion. “How and when did you get here?”

“I arrived late in the evening. I didn’t want to wake you,” he said as he cuddled the fright out of her.

“It’s so cold, Jimmy…It’s so cold,” said Emily as she held onto him for comfort.

“It’s okay, I’m here now. Go to sleep,” said Jimmy as he lovingly cuddled his wife back to sleep.

The morning was welcomed by the musical chatter of twittering birds and judging by the unfinished coffee in the mug. Jimmy had already hurried off to work. Emily decided to start on home improvements. She needed something to drive away the haunting of her nightmares.

Who were these people haunting her dreams? she thought.

The sight of the hanging body and floating corpse, haunted her. She avoided closing her eyes for the rest of the day. Why are they haunting me? thought Emily.

Later that evening, Emily prepared a lovely meal but Jimmy wasn’t there. She lived a lavish but a lonely life. Often wondered if Jimmy loved her, He never yelled it from the rooftops as they did in rom-coms. He simply just kissed her on the forehead whenever he left for work. Nothing has been the same since the incident… That’s all it was, “the incident” Emily herself couldn’t remember what the incident was. She thought as she placed herself on the King sized bed. Sleep had involuntary overtaken her and she started to doze off.

Again, she saw an endless passage filled with darkness on both sides. Echoes of a young giggling young girl was heard. She slowly walked closer to the room at the end of the passage and the giggling increased. There she saw a door, she reached out to the door knob. As she opened the door, her vision was slapped by a bright light that blurred her view. She saw the same floating body of a young female on the surface of the water. Emily became paralysed by the deathly air in the surrounding. The floating corpse slowly started to move towards her. Panic stricken, Emily couldn’t move. The corpse’s arm lifted, as she grabbed ahold of Emily’s wrist. The corpse, slowly climbed up towards Emily’s eye view. Her pale and wrinkled face covered, by her wet raven black hair. Emily, trapped in the corpse’s unbreakable grip, unable to let out a scream or even a sound.

“Why me?!” asked the corpse as she forcefully jerked Emily’s body into the water alongside her.

Emily woke up in a sweat. Jimmy sat on the edge of the bed, with his back faced towards Emily, still dressed in his work attire

“Darling,”said Jimmy quietly.

“Did you dream about HER again?”

“Yes. Why didn’t you wake me from my paralysis,” said Emily as she clung onto his back, while sobbing incessantly.

“I saw her body…I saw it, again,” she answered through the chokes of tears.

‘It’s alright dear. It’s over now.”

Jimmy felt colder than usual, Emily looked up at him. The moonlight shone on his skeletal figured face as his bright red tie peeked through the darkness. It wasn’t Jimmy she was grasping onto. Again, she was jolted out of her dreams and awoke to the calming sounds of chirping morning birds. Emily was left confused about her true reality.
