I switched off Melokuhle’s incessantly ringing phone, I felt a mix of frustration and desperation. My heart pounded in my chest as I knocked on the door, hoping he would listen to me. When Melusi opened the door, his disappointment was evident in his face, his shoulders slumped. I entered without an invitation, feeling a mix of nerves and determination.
“I came to see you,” I said, my voice trembling slightly. He looked at me with a combination of annoyance and pain, his eyes avoiding direct contact.
“Why, when all of this is your doing?” His words stung, but I knew I deserved every bit of his anger.
“Not everything,” I said, mustering up the tears I had practiced in front of the mirror. “I was also deceived.” I wiped my eyes, trying to appear vulnerable.
Walking closer to him, I placed my hand on his broad shoulder, seeking a connection. “Why don’t you leave her be?” I implored, hoping he would reconsider.
His gaze met mine, firm and resolute. “This, us, was a mistake,” he declared, moving away from my touch.
Suppressing my frustration, I took a deep breath and continued with my persuasion. “Don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy what we had, the last time we were together,” I insisted. “It felt right, didn’t it?”
I reached out to him again, my hand trying to find its place on his chest. “We can have that again, Melusi, just you and me.”
But his response shattered my hopes. “I love her,” he said, shaking his head.
My mind raced, searching for a way to convince him otherwise. “If you loved her so much, why cheat?” I questioned, my voice laced with pain. “Why put your whole marriage in jeopardy like that?”
He stumbled over his words “I don’t know, you were tempting I guess.” He admitted. My heart ached as I retreated to the balcony, trying to collect my thoughts and calm my nerves. I had believed that getting him back would be easier now that Melokuhle was out of the picture, but my plan had backfired.
As I looked out over the city, I felt a mix of desperation and determination. I can’t let my plan fail; I have to find a way to get Melusi back, even if it means facing the reality that he might never be mine again.
