Melokuhle

I had just finished a delicious meal and returned from the restaurant feeling content. Melusi, tired from the day, went straight to bed. Feeling a different energy, I decided to take a relaxing bath to unwind before going to sleep.

After leaving the bathroom, I noticed the soft glow in the living room and settled in. Surrounded by papers and pens, I lost track of time as the clock approached 2 a.m. I was ready to say goodnight to the room and join Melusi in sleep when a notification startled me awake. It was 1:47 a.m., an odd time for messages. With bleary eyes, I unlocked my phone and tapped play on a video, struggling to focus on the blurry images, I rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Zandile, the woman we met during our honeymoon, was intimately embracing Melusi. My heart broke into pieces, and tears filled my eyes, blurring the painful scene.

The phone slipped from my trembling hands and fell to the floor. My chest tightened, and I fell to my knees, overcome with emotions. The man I thought loved me, the man who promised to be faithful after our sacred union, had betrayed me in the worst possible way.

I wanted to scream, but no sound came out. Instead, I stood up, trembling with anger and despair. Seeking vengeance, I grabbed the vase Melusi had given me as a symbol of our love and threw it to the ground, shattering it. I continued to destroy things around me, throwing dishes to the floor, each one representing my shattered trust. In my rage, I grabbed a knife and attacked his favorite armchair, ripping it apart, much like my broken heart.

In the midst of the chaos, Melusi rushed downstairs, confused by the scene before him. “Melokuhle!” he called out, unable to understand what had happened.

“You conniving, twisted son of a bitch,” I spat, my voice filled with anger and pain as I faced him.

“Are you crazy?” he blurted out, shocked by the wreckage I had caused.

“Damn right I am!” I shouted, my words dripping with anger. I held the knife towards him, consumed by the betrayal and unable to contain my emotions. I searched for another target, a way to release my fury.

Seeing the luxurious coffee table adorned with diamonds, I grabbed it with shaking hands, using all my strength to flip it upside down. It crashed to the floor, the sound of shattering dreams filling the room.

“You cheated on me,” I whispered, my voice barely audible, my vulnerability laid bare. “Why?” I sank to my knees, tears streaming down my face. The pain of his betrayal weighed heavily on me, consuming every part of my being.

Melusi met my gaze, momentarily considering denying his betrayal. But the truth hung in the air, and he chose silence over deceit. He took a hesitant step towards me, running his fingers through his disheveled hair, a futile attempt to find solace in the chaos he had caused.

“I don’t know, Melokuhle,” he murmured, filled with remorse and regret. “I was stupid, and…”

“Stop,” I interrupted, my voice quivering with pain and resignation. Determined, I rose from the wreckage around me. Without looking back, I went upstairs to our once-shared sanctuary, tears blurring my vision as I packed my belongings. Each item reminded me of the love I believed in, now tainted by his betrayal.

With my bag over my shoulder, the weight of heartbreak threatening to overwhelm me, I forced myself to meet his gaze. Masking my torment with a facade of determination, I spoke with a voice hardened by anguish.

“Don’t come after me.” I declared,

a mix of pain and determination in my words. I opened the front door and stepped out into the night, feeling the cool air on my tear-stained cheeks. I chose to call an Uber instead of using our cars, seeking solace in the anonymity of a stranger’s vehicle.
