Melokuhle
My hands were shaking as the car got deeper into a more open space, we were surrounded by cars and people.
It felt weird being out like this, the busyness of the streets made me to miss all the quiet of our secluded place.
“You okay?” I looked at him, my heart was pounding as we got nearer and nearer to the one place I didn’t want to see myself at.
I shook my head, “I’m nervous.” He squeezed my hand and said nothing, as if he was afraid that he would say a wrong thing. When the car came into the familiar area, i closed my eyes and pretended I was far away from this place.
I pretended that I was still in Cape Town where it was just me and Melusi, I pretended that I was still at least happy for a little while.
“hey” Melusi said, i opened my eyes and saw the house I grew up in, I couldn’t believe it, it felt like a terrible nightmare that I was not even sure I was going to wake up from. “You can do this.” He said kissing my hand. I nodded, he was right if anything bad happened we can always leave, I took a deep breath as I opened the door and went into the gate.
I looked at the house that I felt safe in, That I felt protected now felt like a strangers house.
I rang the intercom and looked at Melusi as if I was asking him if he was really doing this. he slid his hand into mine, “Hello.” a voice came sounded from the intercom, my blood rushed as I recognised my dads voice “Dad?”
I was met by silence, fearing that he may have left hanging, “Melokuhle?” He asked in disbelief “Is that you?”
“Yes dad it is me.”
The gate opened, I looked at Melusi again, this was his chance to back out but instead of turning around and leaving this place instead he led me inside. This was really happening and there no going back.
