Samantha

My breath caught on my throat as I looked at Bavumile “What?” I asked. I heard him well the first time, but shock took over me.

The second rule was that no answering of personal questions, and here was Bavumile asking if I was single, what did that have to do with whatvwe were doing here?

I gulped and tried to hide the shock on my face “Why do you ask?”

Bavumile shrugged “You don’t look like you are dating anyone.”

“Why is that?” I asked, now intrigued even though I shouldn’t be, I should change the subject, talk about something else, anything at all except my personal life.

“I don’t know, you just don’t look like someone who has a boyfriend, it’s a Friday and you have no make up on, not even a lipstick.”

“It could be that I don’t like make up.” I don’t know why I was entertaining him but it was as if I wanted to find out more, I wanted to know how he viewed me even though I shouldn’t care, except that I did.

“Maybe or maybe not.” He looked so bored as if he should be somewhere else interesting.

“So can we talk about yesterday’s outburst?” I asked changing the topic.

He gave me a lopsided smile and leaned forward “I can be honest with you if you can tell if you are single and be honest cause I’ll know if you lie.” He said softly.

My heart skipped a beat, I shouldn’t be entertaining him, instead I should be getting up right now and leave his cocky ass behind, yes that is exactly what I should be doing but instead of standing up I answered “I’m single.”

“I see.” He said, not sounding shocked, “And I am a man who keeps his promise.” He said. “I’m mad because my mother was supposed to protect me, I was her son but she didn’t.”

He didn’t offer anything more after that as he casted his eye down, he looked so vulnerable. I held his hand and gave it a little squeeze.

He looked at me as if he was surprised by my gesture, his eyes were looking at my hand.

“I’m sorry that your mother failed to protect you.” I said giving his hand one last squeeze before taking my hand back.

I stood up “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?” It was not yet my time to leave but guilt have started creeping up on me. I did two things I was not supposed to do, I let him in, to see a glimpse of my life abd I held his hand, why?

No touching, that was yet another rule that I had broken, how does this guy make me break every rule there is without no effort. He looked up at me and nodded before I turned around to leave before I could do anything that I would regret later.
