Dineo

It has barely been 2 weeks, which means that I had barely had time to even settle in this new place, but that didn’t stop Zandi from organising the whole blind date thing. Right now I wish all we had done was just go to the movies and catch up but no.

I look at myself on the mirror one last time and this is not what I would have preferred to look like, I am all definition of being dressed up from the dress that is just above my knees or as Zandi will say something to tease the guys with and some long ass heels I was sure that I would have fallen face first on the floor if I had not spent the past 2 days having to learn because my beautiful ass annoying friend will not leave me alone even though she’s single herself, but she is ready to play cupid on me.

The one thing I am most satisfied with is the makeup, all because I had put my foot down on keeping the makeup natural.

“Are you ready.” Zandi asked with a huge smile on her face behind me, looking at me through the mirror.

I gave her a resigned look, “I should not be doing this.” I said turning around. Zandi rolled her eyes at my statement, “Nonsense,” She said, holding my hand, “This is your chance to get over Menzi.”

Right, Menzi. It is not that I have not given him much thought lately, but moving to another place and starting all over again made me able to push him at the back of my mind and I thought I had done well, but I guess I did not do that much of a wonderful job.

“Let’s get this over with.” I said, walking out of the pub that I had found just a couple of days ago and the one place I usually come to whenever I need a little of a pick me up.

I sat down at the table in the far back.

And my first blind date showed up, he looked out. I am not someone who is against short guys, but I cannot for the life of me date one, I am not about to bend down each time when I have to kiss him, but I do have to admit the guy looks nice, but he is not right up my alley.

As 2 minutes ended, another guy came and this guy has a perfect height but what I hated more was how each time he talked he parts of his saliva will come out, this guy’s problem was how he would talk with his mouth open making me lose my appetite all together and the dates just kept coming and coming, and I was already tired and grossed out from all the guys that came here and no I am not a picky person, but I won’t just settle for anyone just for the sake of it.

“Hi.” the guy said with a smile, a charming smile. “I’m Andrew.” He said, sitting down, “And I got you this.” He handed me the chocolates.

For the first time since this whole thing started, I smiled genuinely, “Thank you, the name is Dineo.”

And he was everything a girl could ask for, for starters he did not come wearing casual clothes he at least made an effort and put on some formal clothes, his beard was recently shaved, and he did not talk about himself the whole time, he listened whenever I spoke, and I laughed at his jokes.

“This was great.” He said when his two minutes ended, “I would love to go on a proper date with you.”

“I’d love that.” We exchanged numbers before he went his way. Zandi came over, squealing, “That looked promising.” She said, occupying the chair that Andrew was just on a few seconds ago.

“He was not half bad.” I said smiling. I did not realise it then but having been with Andrew made me feel normal, normal than I have ever been in the past few weeks.

“See, I told you this was a great idea.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I said standing up. “We will see when we go on a date, not this 2 minute thing.”

When we got home I went straight to my bed, I could not help but smile, it felt great talking to Andrew.

My phone lit up in the darkness with a message from the night stand, and it was Andrew, “Goodnight beautiful.” It was just a silly message, but it made me smile like an idiot in total darkness. I placed the phone back and rolled to the side and hugged my blanket, maybe this is exactly what I need.
