At Lebo’s home
“Mom, what are you planning to cook since you’ve invited the whole Mokoena crew? The menu have to be ravishing. There must be more to choose from. You must give them vavavoooom” Lebo said laying on a sofa with her feet on the table busy with her phone.
“This is not a wedding babygirl, nobody should expect such food especially if they don’t afford them themselves” her mother teased.
They all laughed. Tiny (Lebo’s mother) took out a book and a pen in the drawer and wrote the title: Grocery list. Lebo was all over internet searching all kinds of recipes and food they can cook for family dinner. Everybody was invited. Cousins from the mother’s side as well as cousins from Father’s side. Uncles, grandparents, aunts and all other family members Lebo don’t know about.
Later that day
Lebo has been out for a while now and her mother is all by herself. She was already halfway with cooking dinner and she thought of ways to entertain her family. She thought of hiring music equipments so everyone can dance their butts off. She thought about inviting pastor from her church to bless and unite the family again. She think it will be necessary to invite ladies from her church as well to pray for her family since there have been lot of fights through out the year. She suddenly felt sad and lonely. Mind you, she lost her husband because of her family. They never liked him and they made a way to remove him, permanently. That’s what she heard once during funeral preparations. She heard her sister and grandmother talking in the room. Tears were already rolling on her cheeks when she heard footsteps. She fastly wiped them off with the inside of her blouse and started humming. No matter how much she tried to hide the pain she was in, her daughter always knew when she isn’t well. Lebo walked in with plastics in her hand. She took everything out and placed them where they belong. She hugged her mother from behind and told her everything is going to be alright. Lebo hated seeing her mother cry, however she knew her mother never wanted her to carry her burdens since she’s still young. They ate dinner and Lebo tried by all means to entertain her. She finally laughed and that’s all that Lebo needed to see. She knew her job is done for the day and she headed to her room, they said their goodnights.
