A divorce! I wake up the next morning and he’s getting dressed. What does he mean he wants a divorce?

A divorce was never on the cards!

He’s wearing a dark blue suit, he’s standing by the mirror as usual, making sure his outfit is perfect. He still hasn’t shaved. His hair is still falling all over his face, even though he keeps brushing it back.

He turns and faces me, the man standing before me today is so different to the man who spoke divorce last night. Does he even remember?

“I’ll be home early, today.” He says.

I watch him, for any sign that he may remember whatever happened last night. What he said.

“I want to spend time with Steven.” He continues, fixing his tie.

I don’t reply.

“Last night, you spoke about a divorce?” I finally say.

He looks shocked, his eyebrows raising. He brings his hand up his mouth, then bites gently on his knuckles. He closes his eyes and looks away.

“It was a drunken rant.” He says

I can’t see through that mask he always has on, so I take his words and hang onto them.

“Are you and Natalie okay?” I ask him

He looks down at his shoes, I’ve never seen him look so conflicted.

“Tom?” I press him

He shakes his head, his eyes glued on me. “She’s pregnant. She thinks it’s mine.” He announces.

I freeze. “What?”

He shakes his head, “She’s married. Her husband won’t allow the humiliation this will bring him. She says, she’ll pin it on him.”

I don’t know what to say, anything he says from that moment is a blur, my mind is just screaming, “NATALIE IS PREGNANT. WITH HIS CHILD.”

What hurts the most is that, I know Tom loves Natalie, and that means their baby was conceived out of pure love and passion, unlike my Steven, who was conceived because it had to be done.
