When I came back in from the master, I found Petunia a nervous wreck, paramedics were at the house, while Petunia kept crying and the paramedics tried to hush her, while others restrained her as she tried to get to the babies.
My eyes landed on the twins. They were lifelessly lying on the stretchers. Their bodies so tiny, and their eyes strangely shut. It was like they were taking a nap and they would wake up and cry for their milk.
“Sir? Are these your kids?” The paramedics asked.
I nodded, swallowing loudly.
“What happened?” I asked. I knew exactly what happened. The master and Nomalwandle happened.
“Phila?” Petunia yelled as soon as she heard my voice.
“My love.” I said.
“Wake them up! They’re not moving!” She cried, running to me.
“Shh..it will be fine” I said
“I was going to…feed them..they wouldn’t wake up..I tried shaking them..they didn’t move…what did I do wrong? Why does my womb carry to long term, only to have my kids die at a fragile age.” She sobbed loudly.
“What went wrong?” I asked the paramedics.
“We can’t determine the cause death. Nothing seems out of the ordinary.” The woman sighed, looking at Petunia. She was feeling sorry for her.
I watched as the paramedics took my lifeless kids away, while my wife yelled and screamed praying to God and me to wake them up. I didn’t have the power to do that.
