Chapter 1

“Well, well, well, look who we have here” Emily let out a sneer as she stared at the person in front of her. Her eyes were full of hatred and her smile was cold. Staring at the miserable state of this person did not give her the satisfaction of revenge.

Although she succeeded in her revenge, she could not feel the joy from it. The person in front of her was none other than her illegitimate stepsister, Alexa.

Emily’s mother died in a car accident when Emily was at the tender age of 9. Her father, David Cromwell married another woman, who had a daughter of Emily’s age, two months after his wife’s death.

He claimed he did not want his young daughter to grow up without the love of a mother. Many people sneered at his claim while some praised him for being a good and caring father. His ex-wife’s family, who were dissatisfied with the marriage could not do anything to him because he had the public opinion on his side.

Emily grew up watching the amazing family drama taking place in her home. Her father was a loving and gentle father but she could see the indifference towards her in his eyes. Her new mother, Rita, was a gentle and caring mother – only in the public. In private, her vicious gaze and mouth was something Emily was already used to.

Finally, her sister, Alexa, who was only three months younger than her was the only person that did not bother to act in the family. She showed her dislike for Emily right from the start. And what was Emily’s reaction to all this – indifferent. She was indifferent to everyone at home.

An incident broke Emily’s calm facade. She discovered a shocking truth that made her heart cold. She overheard a conversation between David and Rita when she was 15. It turned out that Alexa was actually David’s biological daughter.

The age gap between the two is only three months which meant that David cheated during his first marriage. What made her heart cold was the probability of her mother’s death being related to David and Rita.

Emily suddenly smiled, her long hair rested gently on her back, her tears crawled down her petite cheeks. She was devastated, angry, and cold.

She never thought that person she considered her closest family was responsible for her mother’s death. All because he wanted to get the 25% shares that was in her mother’s name.

“Heh…” Emily let out a cold laugh. “I will make you all pay for every single pain my mother suffered” Emily swore under her breath.
