Thandiwe
A knock made me lift up my head from my phone. “Come in.”
Okuhle walked in, he walked in his school uniform. Mavis enrolled in a school nearby.
His parents left him at the hands of his uncle when he was a little boy, just above 4 years old and he grew up being abused by his uncle. He ran away the previous year and Mavis found him and took him in, since it was almost end of the year he could not go to school and offered to work in the tavern in respect that Mavis gave him a home.
“I heard that you passed, congratulations.”
“Thank you.” I said with a small smile. He sat besides me on the bed “Does that mean you will go?” I could hear his voice waver a little. I hugged him by the side, in this few weeks I took him like my little brother. “Even if I go here, I will never forget about you. You hear me? And besides you can visit me anytime or call me okay.”
“You promise, you will never abandon me.”
“Ever. Look I cross my heart.” I say as I referenced crossing it.
“Now go to school.” With that he walked out.
