As I’m walking down the road, large clouds pillows were growing and obscuring the sun’s golden hue. My coat begun to receive the first platters of a rain. As a constant bare footer, my feet could feel the moisture of a black top. I took a shelter under an old oak. While waiting for the sun to reappear and illuminate the grass with slanted shaft of light. The droplets eventually faded into a melodious chime as the cacophony subsided.

I could hear the car horn on the side of the road, I avert my eye on to it. Before I say anything I heard the orotund voice saying

“Come back home!” it was the owner of that Yellow bakkie, my mom’s husband on other words.

I replied “No that is not a place to be called home” my voice was brittle the soreness was written all over my place

“What do you mean?” he asked little bit confused

“For the first time I set my foot there I did felt the anxiousness, the unsympathetic, I don’t want to get back there!” I was moving closer to his car

“For goodness sake please come with me I’ve talked with her” I could see he felt sympathy for me

“Isn’t home supposed to be a carefree place? At home I suppose to feel the warmth of her arms around me” I said.

“Now that I’ve already found you I can’t leave you here” he said with his convincing tone.

Eventually I did got in the car and we went back to that place.

I did arrived at the house I didn’t know what to say.

“You can have a seat” he said pointing at the couch. I did took a seat. In the sitting room there was my mother and young lady who is probably 2 years younger than me. My mother just looked at me and “Said let me make you something to eat” as she was getting up and going to the kitchen. I guess that was her only way of apologizing or she pretended as if nothing happened.

While seating there morally adrift, tense and awkward Sir come through and said “by the way meet you Sister, Anelisa”

“Hey Anelisa you so beautiful” I stood up and shook her hand though I can see she was less interested on me

“Hey, Thank You” As she replies her eyes were on the TV

I did understand she wasn’t used to have a sibling, especially me who looked liked a waif

“My coat is wet may I have one of your warm Jackets please” I said as I was taking off my coat

“No I don’t necessarily share my stuff especially my clothes” She said still averted her eye from me

“Sorry I didn’t know” I said. Our parents has nothing to say

I felt little bit embarrassed but that’s when I realized the siblings rivalry has begun!

My mom served a delicious dinner after we had a chit-chat as a ménage. The sun has begun to set, the nightfall has ensued and the dusk descended over the oceans. Everyone is yawning and everyone is drowsy. It’s off to bed with everybody, despite me as far as I’m concerned I wasn’t going to sleep with Anelisa on her room. I mean she has set boundaries on the first day I was introduced to her, either way I had to respect that.

When mama noticed I don’t have place to sleep. She said “We’ve got a spare room which you can make it your room”

“Thank you mom” I replied. She then helped me with bringing the blankets and the globe to the spare room.

All of a sudden she’s being nice, Is my mind deceiving me or does she just racked with guilty. I wonder!

It’s forenoon the wind starts picking up, I woke up and stretched my body as I was going to the bathroom to freshen up, I met with sir.

“Good morning sir” I said

“Good morning my boy, you can just call me father/daddy” He replied

He is such a cool guy, anyways he did deserve to be called that. So far he is the only person who accepted me for who I am.

I just smiled and replied to him “Well daddy, I just want to say thank you for everything” I really meant those words my eyes quickly filled with tears, I just couldn’t hold my emotions.

I could see he also felt it “it’s okay son” he replied patting my head

He lend me a white checkers and said “by the way I’ve got you this sweater, you can fit it”

In a while that was one of the days of having a genuinely smile, my face just lighten up

“Thank you so much daddy” I just throw myself into him and hugged him, but that might not be acceptable too, but he did hug me too.

“You welcome son, I’m running late see you later then.” He said. After he was off to his work.

I took out the sweater from the plastic, it was so beautiful black in color and having the moon on it’s chest. I just fall in love with it.

As I was just holding the sweater a random hands snatched it away from me, I looked around that was Anelisa

“Wow this sweater is nice I also love this hoody can I have it?” she said. She couldn’t even greet me.

I went speechless and puzzled, and someone I thought might defend me just left the house.

“Look it fits better on me, I’m taking this one” she said. As she was looking her self on the mirror, fixing the sweater

“Well I thought it’s mine” I said downhearted

Luckily our mom intervene, Then she said “You can give it to her, he’ll buy you another one”

I just lost hope how I wished for once she could be by my side.

“Sure she can have it” I said. And then I run to my room to cry, trying to let my anger out.

While I was still crying I just heard a knock on my door, I swiftly wiped off my tears and then I opened the door

“Daluxolo the porridge is ready for breakfast”

I’m coming mom, I said

They were already gathered at sitting room having their bowls with porridge. I went to the kitchen to took mine. I took the sugar basin to pour the sugar on my porridge, less fortunate the basin was empty. I went to mom

“Mama it seemed like we’ve run out of sugar, now I can’t have my porridge without sugar”

“Sorry sweetie you can do you’re self bread instead, we have eggs and beacon” she said

“No he can’t I’ll have that bread for my lunch” said Anelisa before I even replied

“Oh sorry honey!” she said referring to Anelisa.

“Let me give you a money so you can go buy a sugar at the market” she said. Lending me a note.

To think of our supermarket was quite far. I had to run to the supermarket so that I can still get my porridge warm.

After we all done with the house chores mama suggested to renovate my room and to be cleaned. It really needed to be renovated as they used it as a place to dumb their unwanted stuff.

We were all startled by the sudden sound of a falling vase! which accidentally slip off from my hands while I was still dusting it off . It clink to the floor, it’s small bits of glass were knocking together.

I looked her on the eyes, her nostrils flared as she was getting closer to me, her eyebrows were scrunching together, I wish I could run but there was no ways to escape.

The slap stung my cheek, I stood there gazed, I was holding my cheek with my left hand and holding back my tears.

My voice went brittle and I said “I’m sorry mama”

With her bared teeth she said “Dammit Daluxolo! why you never look for your father instead?”

“I beg your pardon?” I was scared and confused it was my first time seeing her that angry

She continued with saying “I am not the only one who abandoned you, he did too. He is the one who left me pregnant for another woman. Why he always wins? He is playing happily married! And I’m stuck with his resemblance who is breaking up my things!”

My mouth fell open as I was listening to her perceiving the truth.
