I see morning sunlight seeping into my room and I hear the same chant “Hallelujah!” coming after a long amazing grace.

My eyes are strained, I didn’t sleep, so are Merisa’s eyes on the left side of my bed as she yells: “Amen!”

I yawned in a way the prayer team members couldn’t notice, their prayers helped, we reached the morning, Nangi was nowhere to be seen. Before the prayers, the prayer team leader— Gloria checked with us for Nangi in her room, she wasn’t there, so they decided to pray for me the whole night.

But now everyone looks relaxed as the sun announces itself slowly. The loud prayers originally stop as Gloria waves off with her palms to everyone (five of us in my room). She appears ready to give me the last words of encouragement.

She places her Bible on my chest and says, “We’re grateful to the Lord that nothing happened to you until the sunrise.”

“Amen,” everyone agrees. They are all in white dresses and I’m in my purple blanket. I had warmth and they didn’t.

The prayer team leaves and Merisa stays by my side. She smiles and says, “We won, devil is a liar”, as she lays herself next to me, further yawns heavily. “I feel so sleepy.”

“I know bestie, thanks for everything.” I roll out of my bed, toss my blanket over her body for her own good.

I open my wardrobe, the tomato sauce bottle is gone (the prayer team burnt it). I spread white colgate on my plastic toothbrush and approached the door.

“Bestie, where are you going?” Merisa asks me, tiredly.

“To the bathroom, to brush my teeth.”

“Okay, do it quickly. We must sleep for two hours before going to today’s classes.”

I only nod at her to agree because a colgate foam had filled my mouth. I keep brushing harder to get rid of anything.

I arrive in the bathroom with a free mind and plant myself in front of a rectangular mirror, all of a sudden, I feel a gentle cold air hitting my back as I spit in the sink, when I rotate my eyes back to the mirror, I see myself as Nangi, smiling.
