For the rest of the day, I try to keep out of everyone’s way not wanting to explain myself to them. As soon as the lunch was done I went and stood at the corner by myself and looked around at everyone as they boasted about themselves.

“I’m ready to get out of here.” Caroline says as she joins me on the corner. Even though Caroline was the most beloved child she never treated me differently and that was one thing I appreciated the most when it came to her.

“I know right.” I said as I looked at the watched it was almost 5 o’clock and I was sure ready to get back home away from this place and the awful people it contained.

I finished my drink and placed the empty glass on the table and hugged Caroline and told her goodbye. I managed to sneak out before anyone could even notice. I went to my polo car that stood out as a sore thumb compared to the cars that were parked on the driveway.

“Going away so soon,” A voice said behind me and it was a voice that I knew very well. I turned around and faced my mother “Not even a goodbye.”

“I thought you were too preoccupied to notice.”

She looks at me and sigh “Where did I go wrong with you.” She asked and took a sip on her wine “You are nothing compared to your sister. You have a crappy job, you stay in a small apartment and you can’t even keep a relationship.”

Not this again, it has been the same speech I have been getting ever since I got my job.

I shrug as I got inside the car “Sometimes I wish you were never born.” was the last thing she said as I drove away.

Her words used to hurt me but not anymore, I promised myself that I will never allow anyone to hurt me like that.
