Years ago, someone mentioned that an alliance between a main girlfriend and a side chick could bring down a giant. At the time, it was just noise to me until I witnessed it firsthand.

I once had a deeply loving and caring girlfriend whom I’d been with for years. Her humility and quiet nature were qualities I truly admired. Yet, like many men, I found myself entangled with another person—a side girlfriend. She too was affectionate and caring, but she possessed a carefree attitude and a straightforward way of speaking.

Juggling two relationships isn’t easy. Imagine managing the desires of both for long late-night phone calls simultaneously. How does anyone handle that? It was an arduous task to satisfy both parties.

The worst part? Both girls were unaware of my deceit, and I believed I could continue this charade indefinitely—until one fateful day.

The side chick invited me to meet her at ShopRite in Blantyre for lunch. She even sent funds for my transportation; it seemed she was taking charge, covering all expenses.

The night before the lunch date, I lied to my main girlfriend, telling her I needed to travel to Blantyre for school-related matters. Surprisingly, she bought the lie without suspicion.

On the day of the lunch date, I set off from Luchenza to Blantyre. During the journey, I was chatting on WhatsApp with my main girlfriend, who mentioned she was about to start washing her clothes at her place. I saw an opportunity for my plan to work seamlessly.

Arriving early at ShopRite, I waited eagerly for the arrival of the side chick, all while having the lyrics of Ann Matumbi’s song, “Kudikira ndikowawa, Kudikira ndikowawa,” playing in my head—I was growing impatient.

Then, she appeared—radiant and beautiful—but in that moment, seeing her with my main girlfriend, confusion overwhelmed me. My heart raced, and I couldn’t believe what was unfolding.

Both girls approached me, and my main girlfriend was in tears, unable to fathom my betrayal.

Without waiting for questions, the side chick addressed me, “Boss, I just came to drop off your girlfriend. You guys should have fun.” She even handed me money to cover the expenses for myself and my main girlfriend.

They didn’t allow me a chance to explain. In the end, it felt like one of those betting terms: “Both Parties To Lose.”

That’s how I lost the love of my life.
