It was a normal Monday morning when Nyiko woke up to prepare for school, she lived in a simple four-roomed house with her mom and her two younger siblings Rixile and Khensani. Her mom worked as a cleaner at the local hospital and mostly worked night shifts this meant Nyiko had to be responsible for her siblings as the older one, every morning she woke them up and together they prepared bathing water and got ready for school. Rixile was 14 years and little Khensani was 7 years.

Nyiko woke up at 5.am as always and prepared bathing water she quickly bathed and woke up her siblings to prepare themselves whilst she made breakfast for them, they lived a middle-class life and never really lacked anything. She prepared toasted bread with scrambled eggs mixed with leftover minced meat from last night supper and made tea for them. They ate breakfast chatting loudly and quickly finished up and made their way to school, they usually dropped Khensani off first at the primary school as the both went to the same high school.

I usually tell mom that I don’t like to be dropped off at school like some grade R learner but she doesn’t listen to me, I’m sick and tired of kids at school who thinks that I’m a spoiled brat because my parents doesn’t want me to walk to school with other kids. Argh! That’s so frustrating but atleast I have Nyiko in my corner she’s such a great friend I love her so much, I wish I had siblings like her.

It is like our little ritual you know, when I arrived first at school I wait for her at the gate and when she arrivef first she waits for me. Her name is Kefiloe we have been friends ever since primary school, unlike me she is the only child and her stepdad is rich so her mom or stepdad drops her off at school everyday how lucky she is.

As I was just wondering if she’s not coming to school her mom’s red shiny BMW stops by and she steps out looking like a model, one thing about my friend is that she changes hairstyles every week! Whereas I’m on my third week with this braids talks about unfair!. “Byanong wena? Why nkare o bethile ke bomo sokhi, dintshang ka thloo Yeo?” I laughed so hard instead of her asking me how I am doing she asks about my braids.”Wayaka jhoo kenale 2 weeks fela ke logile or onyako nlogisa rich aunt?” I asked her flicking my ponytail, “Yeah we must do something about that hair my right-hand girl can’t be looking this ashy” she said pulling my hand as we rushed to class.

Tell us: What kind of relationship does this two friends have? Do you have a friend similar to Kefiloe?
