“Thandeka, you and I promised to love and care for each other till the very end of our lives but now when I really think about it, it seems like I made a mistake. I am still very young to be tied down by marriage, our marriage was a bit of a haste, just sign the papers and you will get whatever the court allows you to take. After that you and I will not have anything to do with each other, I do not want to see you ever again.” Said Chulumanco in Thandeka’s dream.
Five years ago Chulumanco and Thandeka divorced after being married for a year, Thandeka often dreams about that day when Chulumanco handed her the divorce papers and chased her out of his life without reason, ever since that day, this dream has always been Thandeka’s nightmare. As she was still dreaming someone disturbed her by waking her up.
“Sis’ T wake up, my tummy hurts” it was her daughter, waking her up in the middle of the night because she had a stomachache. During these years, from the very beginning the only thing that kept her from falling apart was her daughter Khwezi (Zee).
“Oh my little angel, let mommy see. Come let me give you medicine” said Thandeka to Khwezi. She woke up and gave her medication for the stomachache and let her sleep beside her and brushed her stomach till she fell asleep.
In the morning while they were preparing to go out, there was a knock on the door and Thandeka opened the door and it was her bestfriend Sam.
“Madam don’t even think about going out, I woke up early today and did some errands for you” said Sam while entering the house and putting the shopping bags she was carrying on the table and hugging Khwezi.
“Errands? This early?” Asked Thandeka.
“Well you can call them some sort of errands. As Zee’s godmother, I called her school and told her teacher that she was not feeling well and she was given two days off and I asked for a leave for you at work as well. Aren’t I great?” Said Sam with a big smile on her face.
Thandeka laughed at her and said it was good to have your boss as your bestfriend. Thandeka and Sam were both best friends and colleagues, Sam was Thandeka’s boss at the office.
“Friend, I have a favour to ask you” said Sam smiling at Thandeka. Thandeka tells her that she will do her a favour as long as it’s in her power.
“I want you to interview Chulumanco Fuma” said Sam. Thandeka almost choked on the water she was drinking, Sam ran to her and wiped her with a napkin telling her to be careful. Khwezi was shocked, she has never seen her mother this nervous before, even though Khwezi was young but she was also very smart.
“Sam, I cannot do this interview” said Thandeka drawing a chair and sitting down.
“I know you never deal with interviews partner and this Chulumanco Fuma never takes interviews, but he is young, successful and handsome and that is what our readers want. I’m really at my wit’s end with this guy, I have already sent two people to interview him but failed and now I can only cry to the woman behind the success of my company. The director of Star Page (company name) I beg you, the next big achievement of our magazine lies in your sassiness ” said Sam making puppy eyes.
“Even if you ask me to break my leg, I would choose to break my leg instead of meeting him” said Thandeka nervously but Sam did not notice except for Khwezi who actually thought that it was strange.
“Strange, you acting as if you are told to slay the devil” said Khwezi. Sam agreed with what Khwezi was saying.
“Khwezi chomie, are you trying to betray me and siding with your godmother,? You better keep quiet” said Thandeka. Khwezi zipped her mouth and continued combing her doll.
Sam did not know that Chulumanco and Thandeka had a history because Thandeka chose not to talk about it. But this interview with Chulumanco was very important for their magazine.
