Unlike the rest, I did not feed you to the wild,

Yes, at times I would scream regretfully

Yet I had accepted that you would be mine

Forever.

The day you came into this world

The thunderstorm was like never before,

You came into this world and made no sound,

You came into this world with no tears

In your innocent brown eyes.

I should have known

You did not belong here.

The moment I held you in my arms,

I knew you were special,

I knew you were nothing like the rest,

For you greeted me with a broad smile.

I couldn’t take my eyes off you,

You left your mark on me,

So I hoped to keep you by my side

For eternity.

You were an angel in my eyes,

A bundle of perfection,

The beginning of my happiness.

I would sit by your side for hours

And rock your cradle with hopes to

Make you feel as if you were swinging

Uncontrollably on a chandelier.

Whenever you reached out for my hand

I made sure that I was always there

To hold your little fist.

Where are you now?

Is heaven a more deserving place

Of your presence?

Perhaps being the reason

That you closed your eyes and

Never opened them again.

Was your greatest wish to be anywhere but

With me?

Perhaps that is the reason you allowed your

Little heart to stop beating

So that you could hopelessly lay

Beneath me; the surface that will

Forever be too great for your tiny chest.

What am I without your little fist?
