I’ll stare directly at the sun,

But never at the mirror’s gaze.

The sun may force my eyes to close,

Or cause my eyes to hurt with its blaze.

But I’ll rather bask in its radiant light,

Than face the reflection that I fear in sight.

For if I gaze into the mirror’s glass,

I might lose my sense of self, and be aghast.

There’s a reflection that I dread to see,

A truth that my eyes must never be.

I can endure the sun’s burning might,

But never the darkness that the mirror holds in sight.
