Here we are, your mother and I
Running up and down preparing for when you’re born
Buying both girl’s and boys’ clothes for you
Counting down the months left before we could hold you
Getting your nursery ready for when you arrive
I dropped everything to be there through every sonar
Knowing you were coming, I had to change
I had to stop being a party animal and take “Fathering Lessons.”
That strengthened my bond with your mom.
Yes, she’s beautiful, but she kept glowing differently daily!
Our love was unbreakable.
We were inseparable, and I was overprotective of her
Not even a fly got to sit on her skin even for seconds in my presence
All this family foundation was built because of you
Pity we never got to see you
Not to mention touch, feel and tuck you in
I already had bedtime story books lined up on your shelf
And your mother had been rehearsing lullabies for a while
We were so ready to give you a warm home
A home filled with love, peace and tenderness
But instead, you left us before you were even with us
I don’t know if you didn’t like what we had planned for you
Or maybe it’s the colour we used in your room that you hate
Or is it the bond we had that made you break us?
Although we still question ourselves daily
Mommy and I just wanted to let you know that you are loved
And we’ll never stop celebrating your life.
Hopefully, the heavens are treating you right!
Rest easy! My Rainbow Child! Rest easy!
