My culture is more

than just a formality

More than a past

More than just my identity

It’s a connection

of mind, body and soul

Inherited from a bloodline

in my veins that runs

deeper than the river Nile

A link made by the ancestors since the beginning of time

A gift from my forefathers

I stand as strong as the iroko tree

My roots are anchored deep within this continent in touch with its magical majestic wonder

As I tread on sacred ground I know

That this is where my people have been leaving footprints walking

Their words echo from their talking

Merriment and laughing

The ebony nation dancing

Can you hear their voices singing,

Their drums calling

The walk and watch over me.

This gives me a sense absolute pure pride

Because I carry a powerful and mighty heritage

I can never lose it

For it is a treasure that is one in a million

I shall never forsake it

And with it I shall never lose my way

I will never lose my purpose

I will never lose my origins

I will never forget my way back home

My state of mind is vast

My body is strong

And my soul is at peace

Ngoba eli lisiko lam

I embrace my culture

And so should you…
