If I were a poet

I’d write you a letter

Knit words together

With ink to wet paper

Narrate you my day

and throw some jokes

Just to let you know

your son is okay.

If I were a poet

I’d paint you a picture

of the quiet black sky

that occupies my view

When I feel you close.

The night’s gentle breeze

Reminds me that

I’m never alone.

If I were a poet

I’d write you a song

rewind old cassettes

Wipe off years of dust

from vinyl’s spinning heart

push down his hand

and go places as if it were

a ride in Tracy’s fast car.

If I were a poet

I’d write you a poem

made up of simple words,

one last honest chat

reliving your best days.

The life in smiles kept in pictures

and this many beautiful Sunsets

Just Console unsaid goodbyes.
