Fighting Aids

verse 1

My blood is infected and poisoned,

My hopes are weary far from my aid,

My health is deprived and my fresh is gone,

I pray for the carriage of death to take me home,

Away from the whips of fever and lymphadenopathy,

Where I can find my therapy.

verse 2

Mister Sangoma says my condition is a curse

Mister doctor say’s I need a quick blood test,

Sample is collected for HIV antibodies,

My heart so cold like ice blocks,

I’m losing my patience, waiting for the results.

finally the man in a white Coat confirms it’s AIDS.

verse 3

Brethren, Young and old Aids is real,

Abstain from the beast that aims to kill,

The monstrous virus has no passions of heal,

Many are dying and many are feeding on drugs and pills,

Embrace the good spirit of discipline and self control,

Put your focus on the future to achieve your goal.

verse 4

Support those living with the syndrome,

Make them feel alive again, Earn their freedom,

Avoid the malpractice of sharing sharp objects,

Restrain from the use of drugs and unprotect coitus,

Teach the youth about Aids and good moral,

Fight Aids today and tomorrow.

Note: This poem is trying to enlighten and alerting us about HIV and AIDS that has killed a thousand of souls in the African soil. It aims at reminding us that the virus is still out there awaiting for another soul to devour, while the youth and the old have forgotten it’s wrath. By indulging themselves in immoral acts of unprotected coitus, drug abuse, sharing sharp objects just to mention a few. The poem is also encouraging us to seek medical attention and regular medical check ups for the virus. It’s also telling us that abstinence is the key from contacting the virus, if abstinence fails other measures MUST be taken with caution for instance:, having protect sex by using condoms, avoid sharing sharp objects and screening blood before transfusion. Finally the poem is again encouraging us to protect the Rights of those living with Aids, provide access to Antiretroviral therapy(ART), and eating a healthy balanced diet. Together we can fight Aids.
